the title to this post sounds impressive, but i am not going to do to much here that is too technical, except to draw attention to the general scope of jw justice, and the shear battlefield of religious victims.

i will evaluate just the usa statistics.

many of my numbers are estimates, but i have reason to believe that they are generally representative of reality.. there are about 1,000,000 jws in the usa, in about 7,000 congregations.

I was a Jaydub in good standing in three states and a believing walkaway in four more. I've seen unbelievable filth and perversion among JWs and always, always, arrogant prigs like you blame the victim, blame the whistle-blower, and then as a last resort, shrug the evil off as a 'test' by your horrible Skydaddy!

How do you sleep at night?

The fact that 'this doesn't happen in all congregations' is surely no excuse for insinuating that when it does happen it's the fault of the observers!

Nobody is accusing you of serving your god less than wholeheartedly; I notice you don't bother to extend the same courtesy to others. Your insinuations are truly tasteless and show the trashy down-and-dirty 'blame the victim' mentality JWdom has become justly famous for!

I've followed this series with interest. This time, though, it seems to me that the whole thing could have been avoided if you and your elder cronies had just acceded to the girl's expressed wishes and left her the hell alone!

Among all the many words posted, folks praising you seem to ignore this bit:

" I get a certified letter at my home on a Saturday. This time, the letter is typed, and while it was signed by Sister S, it was clearly not her writing style and was written in very threatening language. It basically demanded that we stop harassing her, otherwise she will take legal action against us and the congregation and possibly the Watch Tower Society.

We in no way were harassing her."

YES YOU WERE! She had written you with her decision, why did you hassle her again after receiving this official warning?

"One attempt to talk to her is not an act of harassment."

YES IT IS! Your rationalizations after the fact are pretty meaningless. She told you to leave her alone; you in your elder arrogance decided her wishes meant nothing.

"The letter bore all the marks that it was written for her, and she merely signed it. If she wrote it, she must have been coached."

Irrelevant speculation! Many JWs have asked someone else to help them write letters in their dealings with the Society. That's no excuse to dog the child further!

"I did not mind that she wanted to take a strong stand, but I felt very bad that she would accuse us of harassment and make such strong threats, and allow herself to be so coached by people who did not understand or care about our good motives."

Too bad for your feelings! You were WRONG and no amount of justification will make it right. Your 'good' motives? Your ARROGANT PATERNALISTIC HIERARCHICAL motives! She felt harrassed. WHy are your feelings of more value than hers?

BINGO! You were angry, you sought revenge.

"I was more angry that Sister S was being coached and within the protection of this mean ‘worldly’ family. I was pissed that she took off and did not at least allow us some additional discussion. I was also hurt at her allegations of harassment, and could not understand this accusation. So, I get together with the other Elder and we decide to write a letter warning Sister S that she has been accused of stealing and lying, and that if she fails to respond we will have to take DFing action."

So, you sought to exercise some further definitive control over the girl, show her who's boss, threaten her until she coughs up some respect for you. And to slap at that awful worldly woman, how dare she try to help the kid protect herself from elders like you!

PHOOEY!!!!

This one IMO seriously dents your credibility. You took action based on anger and hurt feelings, and totally discounted the person in favor of swift revenge.

No means NO in any language. You should be ashamed to talk about 'justice' in this incident. YOu were a genuine Society boy through and through in this one.

I'll be viewing further 'justice' posts from you with a whole shaker of salt.

so the son goes out and brings in the flock, because his heart was on obeying his father and he wanted to care about the same things his father cared about.

I think you're wrong, Prisca. This guy goes around saying there is something wrong with out hearts, he judges us as filthy, deceitful, etc. Why? Because he thinks we are not hearing the same voices as he!

If that's dignity and respect, I'm a beauty queen!

That inherent judgmental arrogance is hatefilled. Just because he isn't ranting and railing doesn't mean he's not operating out of blind and stupid prejudice.

His 'message' is braindead. If he wants to be viewed as rational, he should try keeping his religion in his pants and stop spraying everyone with its byproduct.

I consider posts like Aaron's to be direct insults. He says I am a dirty sinner and in need of the same emotional crutch as he uses. He urges me to mumble out loud to the same imaginary friend he relies upon. I find that insulting. I find it insane.

This is not ad hominem. If the man does not want to be chuffed off, he needs to stop telling me I am dirty and in need of a ritual cleansing via his approved delusional method.

I don't give a rat's ass about 'appearing intelligent'. Appearances can be deceptive,as certain allegedly intelligent posters prove daily. If the man doesn't want to be discarded with his idiot message, he needs to change his approach and quit insulting anyone not buying his brand of cheese.

Huntington W Va? No wonder they are happy to have a convention. They'd be happy to have ANY convention. It's a small town, and anyplace in WVa is too poor to pass up any convention, no matter how chintzy and non-tipping the attendees. (JWs being lousy tippers is the stuff of much legend isn't it?)

That little pissant town would welcome NAMBLA if they booked the Civic Arena. Money talks, especially in Hicksburg.

In the name of belated wisdom

if we take a critical view on the last weeks events on this board, there is maybe a thing or two to consider.

the board has seen a kind of war, and sarcasms and caustic remarks have been more the rule than the exception in some threads.

usually these ends up adding something positive to the community or the forum where the war raged, and its much like a thunderstorm.

Well this is sort of either/or thinking isn't it?

Getting out of a cult is no guarantee that one will be 'happier, healthier, better all round.' Whether one leaves or stays in the cult, being happy and healthy are individual things. As for 'better', that is a pretty subjective term. Better than what? Better compared to what? Whose notion of 'better', or 'healthier' will you offer as the gold standard?

This notion that we are somehow responsible to show JWs a better way to replace their evil one needs to be laid to rest. If they don't have enough moral fiber to leave the cult when confronted with the masses of evidence, it's NOT my job to babysit and coddle them until they feel strong enough to find some ethics and quit subsidizing that killer organization.

Anyone who decides 'being a Witness is better' deserves the life they choose for themselves. This isn't a club with secret handshakes and a rulebook. There is no guarantee of a happy healthy good life, in or out of the cult. This microcosm is IMO a good place for Jdubs to get a taste of the diversity that they'll find in the real world. Not everyone here is a newly-minted saint or born-again kinder gentler soul. Here, as in real life, 'caveat emptor'.

Anyone who wants to kill himself as a result of what he has read on a message board needs to be hospitalized PRONTO. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MENTAL/EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF LURKING JDUBS. Laying that responsibility on anyone is just plain wrong. No matter WHAT they have said...

Awake exploits family tragedy ....

by now most here have read the terrible story of a pregnant witness, theresa giarrano, who was murdered for her unborn child.

the story appeared in vogue magazine shortly after the events took place; it is only now, 10 months later, that the awake (july 22, 2001 issue) has published anything about this tragedy.

though the story is "as told by" theresa's father, james giarrano, it is such a twisted piece of exploitation that i can only believe a ghost writer or collaborator is behind it.

Yes, the kid already has a new mother. Dad didn't even wait six months to get him another dubmissive wife (wasn't that the coolest typo? I'll leave it, it's SOO descriptive). So much for any deep grief on HIS part...I wonder how Theresa's parents felt about that? I notice the Asleep! rag is silent on THAT point.
